I grew up in a small rural town in Kansas, 4x8 city blocks in diameter. We lived on the edge of town in a neighborhood full of kids. Both the volume of kids and proximity to fields, pastures, and ponds, provided endless adventures. These early experiences formulated my world and influence the images I produce today.
My art, at first glance, may appear to go in many directions, this may be due to the variety of media and projects you present to students when teaching art. A closer look reveals a deep love for the Kansas landscape and nature through an impressionistic lens. The landscape or nature can also be an insight to memories, emotions, the past, and your inner conversations. The abstract gets even closer to the soul. I’ve always been a contradiction of artist and athlete, shy by nature though my art reveals a bolder inner life.
